Getting started

Welcome to UTMStandard

UTMStandard enforces UTM naming rules at the point of link creation — before bad data reaches your analytics. This guide gets you from zero to clean UTM data in under 5 minutes.

1

Set up your workspace

When you sign up, UTMStandard creates a workspace for you. Your workspace is where all your links, templates, and naming rules live. You can invite your whole team to one workspace — pricing is flat, so adding more people costs nothing.

You can create multiple workspaces if you manage separate brands or clients.

2

Define your naming rules

Go to Settings → UTM Rules. This is where you define what values are allowed for each UTM parameter.

For each parameter (source, medium, campaign, content, term) you can:

  • Set allowed values — only these options appear in the builder dropdown
  • Enforce lowercase — automatically converts all input to lowercase
  • Require the field — blocks link creation if the field is empty
  • Block the field — hides a parameter if you don't use it

Example: set utm_source allowed values to linkedin, google, email, twitter, facebook and enable lowercase. Now no one can type "LinkedIn" or "GOOGLE" — the field becomes a dropdown.

Tip: Start with just utm_source and utm_medium. You can add more rules anytime, and they apply to all future links immediately.
3

Build your first link

Go to Links. Fill in the builder:

  • Destination URL — the page you're sending traffic to
  • UTM parameters — select from your approved values (or type freely if no rules are set)
  • Short link — toggle on to get a branded short URL (e.g. go.yourcompany.com/x7f2q)

The preview updates in real-time showing exactly what the final UTM URL will look like. Click Save link to create it.

4

Save templates for common campaigns

If you run the same campaign type repeatedly (e.g. LinkedIn sponsored posts, email newsletters), save a template with the UTM values pre-filled. Your team applies it in one click — no chance of typos.

Go to Templates to create and manage them.

5

Invite your team

Go to Settings → Team and invite anyone who creates UTM links. Everyone uses the same naming rules — that's the whole point. Flat pricing means adding more people doesn't change your bill.
